Thanksgiving is here and that means its time to once again refresh ourselves on how to cook a turkey.
We all have roasted turkey recipes which have been passed from one family generation to another, and apart from the spices and preparation, the turkey cooking times is what's common among all them.
Remember, that how long you cook a turkey highly depends on its weight - which means one turkey cooking time will be different from another.
How Long To Cook A Turkey
First, measure the weight (W) of your turkey in pounds. Then simply multiply the weight (W) by 15 and you get the number of minutes that you should cook your turkey.
For example, if your turkey weighs 15 lbs, then the turkey cooking time is 225 minutes.
Other Tips To Remember:
The cooking time above is for an unstuffed, thawed turkey in a 325 degree Fahrenheit oven. For stuffed turkey, simply add 15 minutes to the cooking time.
It helps if you can insert a cooking thermometer through the thickest part of the thigh and check if the turkey is cooked to 180 degrees Fahrenheit before taking it out of the oven.
For stuffed turkeys, the temperature of the stuffing should be at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
Happy Thanksgiving!
