Official Instagram Android App Now Available To Download

The most popular photo app in iOS is now available on Android. After the long wait, the official Instagram app for Android OS rolled out today as a free download in the Google Play store (formerly Google App Market).

All the basic filters are there, but the first version still lacks the tilt shift / blur and live preview features, as well as the share from feed and to Flickr function. So expect an update to Instagram for Android in the next few weeks.

The Android Instagram is compatible with phones running Android 2.2 and above (with support for OpenGL ES 2), this makes it not compatible with Android tablets for now. Furthermore, the maximum resolution supported as of the moment is 2,048 x 2,048.

Other features of Instagram from Android as stated in the Google Play store are:
  • 100% free custom designed filters and borders
  • Lux works its magic by making your photos more vibrant and brings out details in your photos you couldn't see before
  • Instant sharing to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Foursquare (Flickr coming very soon)
  • Interact with friends through giving & receiving likes and comments
  • Works with Android versions 2.2 and above that support OpenGL ES 2
  • Full front & back camera support

  • And much much more...
