Today Is World No Tobacco Day

With the growing number of smokers particularly from the youth, it became a concern of sectors of the society particularly healthy living advocates and non-smokers to live a smoke free lifestyle.

And today we celebrate World No Tobacco Day which encourages people to abstain from consuming tobacco as it has numerous negative effects to the body.

Today marks its 25th year which started in 1987 by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The worldwide campaign has been supported by various governments, health organizations and suprizingly also smokers, growers and tobacco companies.

Several actions such as warnings, information drives and limited  to complete advertisement bans were made and still continued. As a symbolic gesture, World No Tobacco Day is usually depicted with an astray without a cigarette but a fresh flower on top.

With the campaign continuing, it aims to lessen the number of victims of tobacco related illness and death which also increases life expectancy.
