Goodyear Recalls Wrangler Silent Armor Tires

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has issued a voluntary recall for the Wrangler Silent Armor tires. This recall covers around 41,000 units composed of the Wrangler Silent Armor tire sizes LT235/80R17 LRE, LT325/60R18 LRE, LT275/70R18 LRE, LT265/70R17 LRE, LT245/75R17 LRE AND LT285/70R17 LRD that were produced from Mar. 31 through May 31 2009.

The tires are meant for off-road driving and the company estimates that there are about 27,000 tires that are still being used on the road by vans, pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles.

"Partial tread separation could lead to vehicle damage when the separated tread strikes the vehicle," announced the company after an internal review of the tire. "A tread separation could also cause tire failure that could result in a motor vehicle crash."

Goodyear announced that they will notify all tire owners on their records and have them replaced without additional costs. This safety recall will start on or before March 22nd.
