Last year, "planking" got the world's attention which led to a full blown meme all over the internet. Meanwhile, in recent weeks, the Philippine's version called "Noynoying" is slowly gaining attention, much to the displease of the government and other Noynoy Aquino supporters.
Noynoying, the act of "posing in a lazy manner, such as sitting idly while resting their heads on one hand and doing nothing" is a protest gimmick against the alleged inaction of the Philippine President to the pressing issues of the country. And due to its influential coverage, it has now entered as a Wikipedia entry.
However, it seems that Noynoying could be deleted anytime soon, pending justification stated on the article itself by Wikipedia editors.
The said entry is being considered for deletion due to several reasons, among them it's possible failure to meet the site's general notability guideline, meaning it is being questioned if the terms has "gained sufficient significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time."
Another reason is that the article might be lending undue weight to certain ideas, incidents, controversies or matters relative to the article subject as a whole. In short, the article might not be neutral or objective in presenting the information.
And lastly, Noynoying is seen as only a topic that is slanted towards recent events. If so, then it should be better written under a historical perspective of a more appropriate article. For example, as a subsection under Benigno Aquino III's Wikipedia entry to describe events that happened during his term as President.
When and who will decide if Noynoying should be deleted as an independent entry on Wikipedia, it's up to the editors of the website to decide.
