Hostess, the company that manufactures the iconic Twinkies and Wonder Bread, is closing business soon.
The Texas-based company has greatly suffered from the nationwide worker strike and has decided to file bankruptcy last Thursday, leaving around 18,500 workers without jobs.
It was a bittersweet Thursday evening at the Schiller Park plant, when one baker came out and started handing checks out to his still working colleagues outside, then one of them said, "This is my last check... I'm on vacation next week."
The local union president has not yet given an official response to how they plan to address the concerns of the workers, specially now that the company has decided to file for Chapter 11.
Hostess, founded way back in 1930, says they would most likely sell the recipes, intellectual property and other assets. So there's still hope for Twinkie lovers. But for now, enjoy those last batches you see in stores because it could be your last Twinkie - although we hope it's not.
